PATIENT RIGHTS & CONFIDENTIALITY

To ensure the privacy of each client, the Hope Center for Rehabilitation adheres to a strict set of both state and federal regulations regarding patient rights and confidentiality, as well as internal policies that protect patient privacy. Patients have rights and regulations protected by several federal laws, including:

• HIPAA – Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
• CARF – Regulations from the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities
• 42 Code of Federal Regulations Part 2 regulations

Patient Privacy

The Privacy Rule, pursuant to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, strictly regulates the disclosure of “Protected Health Information” by insurers, clearinghouses and other treatment providers such as The Hope Center. It mandates that the privacy and personal records of our patients be safeguarded, and that disclosures of any such information be severely limited to cases wherein patients give their consent. The HIPAA Privacy Rule also provides patients with a means of greater control over their privacy, allowing them to review and retain their private health information. If you believe that your rights under the Privacy Rule have been infringed upon, you may file a complaint with the Department of Health and Human Services.

Confidentiality, Comfort & Recovery

Our legal responsibility to abide by and accommodate these laws solidifies the Hope Center’s commitment to patient rights and confidentiality. Every member of our staff, whether therapist or clinical director or behavioral technician, embodies this same level of respect for all patients on a daily basis. All communication and attendance in our rehabilitation program is 100% confidential.

Patient rights and confidentiality are not simply legal formalities, but also vital to a successful recovery from alcoholism, drug abuse and addiction. By demonstrating the utmost respect for their rights and privacy, we believe that the Hope Center can provide an environment that is much safer and more comfortable for patients and employees alike. We know that our clients are much more likely to open up, be honest, and get well if they feel at ease with their surroundings, assured that we are here to facilitate their rights rather than violate them.
